Wayne Rooney Biography
Wayne Rooney Biography – Introduction
Twenty one years old and he's already an international super star. Rooney already has 170 league appearances in the Premiership and scored over 56 goals and also has a goal tally of 12 (in 38 matches) for the England national squad. This is the player in numbers, but in this biography, you'll meet the person behind the numbers as I'm going to cover his career so far, from youth level to international fame.

Wayne Rooney Biography – Everton
Initially, Rooney started playing soccer for the Liverpool Schoolboys, but when he was 10, he was signed by Everton for a youth contract. His strong physique for his age made him stand out and Wayne Rooney's goal tally with the youth squad was over the top even in his early teens.

His impressive form and his physical and technical qualities made him leap to the senior team when he was just 16 years old. Incredibly enough, he was even given the chance to play, just prior to his 17th birthday, in a match against an Arsenal team that dominated the Premiership at that point, with 30 consecutive unbeaten matches.

Full name Wayne Mark Rooney
Date of birth October 24, 1985
Place of birth Liverpool, England
Height 5.10FT - 1.78M
Playing position Striker

A few minutes after he entered the pitch, Rooney received a long ball from midfield, took over the ball with a perfect stop and pummeled the ball in the top corner, leaving David Seaman with no reaction in Arsenal's goal and at the end, breaking Arsenal's winning streak. The commentator of the match said that day "Wayne Rooney – remember that name" and indeed it was a name to remember.

He soon became a regular first team member and Rooney's goals also brought him in the attention of the English national side, for which he starred in the 2004 European Championship in Portugal.

His performances there and the intense media coverage he was under that summer made Manchester United and Newcastle United fight for his signature and it was the former who were successful, paying no less than $50 million, making Rooney become the most expensive teenager transfer in history.

Rooney Biography –
Manchester United

Rooney's highlights so far with Manchester include over 100 league matches played for the Red Devils, for which he scored 41 goals (not counting those scored in cups, European competitions and friendlies).

He won the Premiership in 2006-2007, the League Cup in 2006 and was also named the Young Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006, as well as the Fans' player of the Year in 2006 in the Premiership. Quite a CV for a 21 year old…

Although the many awards and trophies he got in 2006 could have made it the year of his career, an incident involving Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2006 World Cup earned him some negative reactions from fans and press alike.

England met Portugal in the 2006 World Cup quarter-final and that also meant that Manchester United's young stars, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo would clash.

In the second half, after a tackle received from Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho, Rooney looked like he intentionally stepped on the player. Cristiano Ronaldo then rushed at the referee demanding a red card for Rooney, despite the fact that the two were teammates at the club (Click here to play a funny online game dedicated to that incident).

This incident tensed the relationship between the two at Manchester United and Rooney was brought down by the entire English press and was made a sort of scape-goat for England's defeat against Portugal, much like the incident involving Beckham at the 1998 World Cup.

Fortunately, in a few weeks the incident died down and both Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo were able to call it a truce and play brilliantly together in the following seasons.

Rooney is currently rated amongst the top 3 media stars in soccer, right behind Ronaldinho and David Beckham and Wayne Rooney's celebration has become a trademark of his young fans.

Much is expected from Rooney by both the Manchester United fans and the English national side's ones in the upcoming European Championship and World Cup, since he will be at the peak of his career by the time these two competitions hit.
