He joined Real Madrid in season 1992/93 from the former Atlético Madrid lower teams. His promotion in the club has been unstoppable ever since he came in. After a brilliant performance in the reserve teams, he stepped up to make his debut in the first team when he was 17 under Jorge Valdano's coaching. He has been in the starting lineup ever since. After seven seasons in the elite of Spanish football, he has become a key piece both in Real Madrid and in the national team.

His likings are: reading, especially the books by Arturo Pérez Reverte and listening to Spanish music. He also likes bullfighting and hunting.
Grew up in a humble area of Madrid, at the Marconi housing scheme in San Cristóbal de los Ángeles. Don Pedro, his dad, was a very keen supporter of Atlético Madrid, where he started to play football after his short stay in San Cristóbal.
